The new Manchester city centre Exchange Square tram stop is set to open on Sunday 6 December.

Services will initially run between Shaw and Crompton and Exchange Square via the brand new outbound Platform D, opening the same day at Victoria Station’s new-look Metrolink stop.  Inbound trams from Oldham will continue to use Victoria stop Platform A.

Combined with the Rochdale via Oldham line service, the new line means a six-minute daytime service between Shaw and Crompton, Oldham and the city centre from Monday to Saturday, with a less frequent service on Sundays.

There are more than 800 FREE car parking spaces combined at Shaw & Crompton, Derker, Oldham Mumps and Hollinwood stops, giving Metrolink customers the chance to park and ride into the heart of the city to enjoy all the Christmas fun on offer.

Full service details are available online now at www.metrolink.co.uk or by calling Metrolink Customer Services on 0161 205 2000.

It’s a pity that High Crompton is so badly served by buses, especially on Sunday’s, as getting to and from the station is a problem for those of us who don’t drive.

  2. Kirsty Gleeson says:

Please can you ask metro link as to why ther are no double trams during the peak periods on the Rochdale line? I get tram at 5.30 pm from Victoria and there is a very high risk of crush injuries because the trams are so packed are only single trams, where as there is a double tram and a single tram on the bury line before you even see a Rochdale tram.

    Many thanks

  3. Andrew Corry says:

Why don’t they run a free bus from royton to the tram station seen as though royton has no tram stop so to use it we have to pay for the bus then pay for the tram to get the tram up and running it did come out of our taxes but don’t see the benefits

  4. Why have TfGM allowed the Rochdale line to take off all doubles at peak time for the last few months, when Bury has solid doubles trams at twice the frequency? Why does the Rochdale/Oldham line always get the worst service? Do their TfGM representatives not speak up at all at the changes, or travel at peak times to experience the reality of the service. The overcrowding from before 7:00 in the morning and far worse every evening is uncomfortable and dangerous, never mind overpriced to stand more often than not. Please tell me that the new service will start before 7:00 and will actually include some double trams.
