Below are the details that have already been shared with people in our Focus Newsletter back in August/September. Feed back from local residents has been positive.
“Shaw and Crompton Parish Council has planted (June 2019) a living Christmas Tree at Wrens Nest, Milnrow Road. The tree is a much more sustainable approach than the previous disposable tree. This builds upon the success of the living Christmas tree planted at the Crompton War Memorial some years ago.”
The frame allow lights to be displayed without damaging the tree, and was used a couple of years ago on the tree at the War Memorial. That tree has now taken to its new location and started to grow and is now large enough for lights without the frame.
The tree is the largest recommended for such projects (and is over 6ft high), bigger trees run to thousands of pounds and are far less likely to successfully take to their new location. Also specialist equipment is required for their transport and installation.
The ground works have also been improved as have the electrics and watering arrangements. Hopefully the tree will take quickly and grow and mature in the years to come.
As the tree grows the plan is to expand the lights display.
The tree looks good Howard, and it is great that it is alive and will continue to grow. The lights also gave a good display, however, they have not been lit since Tuesday!
