Disappearing bins: Oldham Council blasted for neglecting Dunwood Park

Liberal Democrat councillors and residents have been left appalled after Oldham Council removed a number of public bins from Dunwood Park in Shaw, without providing replacements or offering an explanation some weeks ago.

Shaw representative and Oldham Liberal Democrat Leader, councillor Howard Sykes MBE said, “The Council have left the place looking like a tip.  Rubbish is piling up and people who use the park are rightly furious.”

“We had two perfectly good bins in the park.  Where have they gone?  And when are we getting them back?  These are very simple questions, but Oldham Council have just been silent.  I have contacted a number of different Council Officers about this, but it is a wall of silence.  People in Shaw are getting a disgraceful service from Oldham Council at the moment.”

After receiving complaints from local residents last month, councillor Sykes took the issue up with Council Officers, but has been left appalled by the lack of interest or response.

“This is not good enough and people who use Dunwood Park deserve better,” stated councillor Sykes.

Placed an official complaint with oldham council. They advised the bins were replaced with larger ones which would be emptied by their 12.5 ton refuse vehicle. They then stated the vehicle could not get access to the new bins and removed them. The large new bins have now been replaced once more. Makes one wonder what the total cost of the farce must be now.
The iron gates at the north end were also removed and replaced with a cheap wooden gate that’s now left fully open. The original iron gates were the only thing discouraging the illegal motorcyclist tearing the park up due to it being inaccessible for them. Last night there were 10 illegal offroad motorcycles tearing the park up with balaclava clad riders.
No thought gone into any of these costly blunders by oldham council.

Words fail me about how a total lack of thought about this whole saga and not realised they had removed the gates – beggars belief.

Total lack of consultation regarding changing bins. It’s made to look like only Dunwood Park is only 1 affected but eventually all the bins have been replaced. So there are other sites inaccessible by the large bin collector.
What should be the question, “who did the feasible study & how much did they get paid” I assume that it was an alleged cost cutting exercise? But what happens to the Park Keepers, their jobs are gradually diminishing. Are our Parks going to be another deprivation Oldham are going to suffer.
