This is a link to Street Safe – a service that allows people to report safety concerns in public places anonymously.
This includes issues like poorly lit streets, abandoned buildings, broken equipment, or vandalism as well as instances where you feel unsafe due to someone following you or verbally abusing you.
Buckstones Road closure – impact on bus services
The closure will be operative from 02/04/2024 until 16th April 2024. The closure is for Cadent to carry out gas connection works.

Development at Moss Hey Street, Shaw.
The construction is moving well and they are anticipating to have the first residents move in during late Summer/Autumn. They have progressed with 50 plots in total so far and are moving at a good pace on the programme.
There is a number of planning, building warranty etc conditions to discharge before they move the first residents in.
Terra Nova have worked with the local bowling club to provide repairs to their car park which is now complete and are collecting for the local community centre food-bank on a monthly basis. They are also utilising local labour currently consisting of a labourer and bricklaying gang.
Great Places have brought to the attention of the contractor the parking situation on Moss Hey Street. With the increase of operatives travelling to site they are looking into options for additional parking facilities.
Buckstones Road – closed from Tuesday 2 April 24 for two weeks
The closure is made to allow Cadent gas connect works and will be in force from Tuesday 2 April for two weeks or until the works are completed.
These works have been delayed from when first requested to be undertaken during the school holidays.
It will prohibit vehicles from proceeding along that part of Buckstones Road B6197 from Milnrow Road for 15 metres south easterly.
Alternative route (see map below)
Southbound– Milnrow Road, Crompton Way, Oldham Road, Heyside, Higginshaw Lane, Shaw Road, Huddersfield Road and Ripponden Road.
Northbound – Milnrow Road, Newhey Road and turn back at the roundabout to approach Buckstones Road to then follow the southbound diversion.
The new centre will be occupied by the two existing practices that are in the old health centre.
The Village Practice and the Oak Gables Practice.
Both are current accepting patients, so my advice is transfer/register now.

Sewage dumping hits unprecedented levels
– 41% increase in sewage dumps by United Utilities this year
The horrendous levels of sewage dumping across our area have been laid bare by the latest figures released by the Environment Agency, with United Utilities, the water company for our borough, discharged sewage a staggering 97,537 times last year – a 41% rise on 2022.
Liberal Democrat councillor Sam Al-Hamdani called for tougher action against sewage dumping in local rivers/beaches, including replacing Ofwat with a tougher regulator. The party has also called for a ban on bonuses for water company bosses whose firms have dumped sewage into waterways.
He said: “It is a complete scandal that filthy sewage is being pumped into our area’s rivers and waterways.”
“Our community should not be forced to put up with this any longer yet time and again this Conservative government has voted against tougher action on sewage dumping.
Figures for dumping in Saddleworth have astonishingly increased – a storm overflow in Greenfield released sewage for 2,300 hours last year actually increased last year to 2,748 hours. Another storm drain in close by in Greenfield also overflowed for another 1,372 hours – putting raw sewage into the river for the equivalent of 171 days – nearly half a year. There were other major overflows in Dobcross and Delph, as well as further along the River Tame in Mossley.
He continued: “In Oldham and Saddleworth, the Liberal Democrats have been leading the way in holding water companies to account and have called for tougher action to stop sewage being dumped in local rivers.
“The Conservatives aren’t going to deal with this for another 25 years – we need action now.
“We need to see a ban on bonuses for water company bosses whose firms have pumped filth into our waterways and our local community is protected from this filth.”
